I am now offering one to one Art tutoring for children. Each six week tutoring block will be tailored to your child’s interests. Through a range of mediums such as painting, drawing and collage your child will make a series of artworks promoting creativity and self-worth.

*Art activities help improve fine motor skills. They involve precise movements of the hands and fingers.

*Art helps children learn about size, shape, counting, and spatial reasoning.

*Art helps children develop language skills as they describe and share their work.

*Art activities connect children with their inner self and builds confidence in their self worth.

*Art educates and can help children appreciate diversity and broaden their horizons.

*Art projects can give children a sense of accomplishment and pride.

As a teacher who has been in the classroom for the past thirty years I can honestly say that there is very little time for exploring visual arts. The curriculum is full in all States within Australia. The Arts are not prioritised in the Primary School setting. If your child is very creative this would lead to frustration.

As a creative child myself I remember feeling resentful that very little time was allocated for my creative needs.

Through tutoring I am providing your children with an opportunity to connect with their creative selves. This in turn will build their artistic skills, knowledge and self confidence.

How 1:1 Tutoring Works

Every session is tailored to your child’s ability level and interest. The first session will be dedicated to getting to know each other. I will introduce Art Journaling techniques. After getting to know your child I will design the program accordingly.

Over the course of six weeks we will meet once a week and explore a range of creative mediums such as painting, drawing and collage. Your child will work in a visual journal, learn new skills, creating fabulous artworks and develop a deeper understanding of their own self worth.

Sessions are 45 - 60 minutes and take place via Google Meet or Teams.

FAQs

  • We begin with drawing, using pencils and markers. We move onto collage using a variety of mixed media. Then we move onto paint. I will provide a list of materials that are required one week before the lesson. I try to keep it simple so that children can work independently.

  • I have a good understanding of Art Learning concepts and a child’s developmental stages. I develop lessons based on their individual abilities and unique interests. Technology skills would be required in order to be able to use the internet. Ages 5 to 12 is ideal. Although I’m happy to work in with any age. Art is for everyone!

  • This largely depends on your child’s capabilities. I can work in with most children particularly if they happily work independently and have good technology skills.

A bit more about me!!

I have been teaching for thirty years and enjoy working with children. I believe in the Reggio Emilia Approach which is an educational philosophy that believes children are capable of constructing their own knowledge. Each child is rich in potential. They are curious and resourceful. Children have many ways of thinking, expressing themselves, and learning. I am happiest when I am in a teaching role where I can guide and nurture children to express themselves authentically and creatively.

I have taught in both public and private schools in Western Australia, Canberra, New South Wales and Victoria. At St Francis Xavier Primary School in Geraldton I was responsible for an Extension Program. We entered Tournament of Minds, an International educational program requiring students to solve demanding, open-ended challenges as a collaborative team. We were successful in making it to State and National Finals with my Social Science team winning an Australian Final.

It has become my mission to create and provide opportunities for children and adults to explore their own creativity. It believe it is important we explore our feelings, thoughts and imaginings and learn to communicate our own ideas through the infinite possibilities that can be found through creative expression. I also believe it is through our creativity we can express who we really are. This is where we can find our own true worth and offer our unique gifts to the world.
